I've spent over a 15 years on the mats. If there's one thing I've learned, although sometimes the hard way, it's that strength alone won't keep you training.
Strength plus mobility will.
Most grapplers treat mobility as an afterthought. Something you do when you're injured, when you're feeling stiff, or when you have a few extra minutes before class. A quick hip stretch, some shoulder circles, then back to the real training.
That approach works in your 20s, but for most grapplers, it stops working somewhere around 35 or 40, when the accumulated tightness, the nagging injuries, and the slow decline in range of motion starts showing up in every session.
I built Martial Move™ because I refused to accept that as inevitable.
MOBILITY IS THE FOUNDATION OF LONGEVITY.
Strength matters. I've built entire programs around it.
But mobility is what allows you to express that strength, and more importantly, it's what keeps you on the mat as the years go by. Mobility generally declines with age. Joints stiffen, ranges shorten and positions that felt natural at 25 become uncomfortable at 45.
But that decline is not fixed. If you treat mobility as a primary focus, not an afterthought, you can reverse it, maintain it, and build on it at any age.
MOST MOBILITY SYSTEMS ARE INCOMPLETE
I've been studying mobility training since 2011 and what I've found is that most systems get one or two components right and miss the rest.
They focus on creating space but ignore down-regulating the nervous system first. They develop range but don't teach you how to load it. They address muscles but not joints.
The results are often temporary, because the system doesn't address the full picture of what joint mobility actually requires.
I wrote a complete breakdown of the six components of healthy joint mobility, which you can read here.
Understanding those six components is what led me to build something more complete.
MOBILITY IS PROGESSABLE, BUT ALMOST NOBODY TEACHES YOU HOW
This was one of the biggest gaps I found in existing systems. Every strength program has a progression model. You add reps, weight, and sets, but mobility training rarely does.
You stretch the same way you stretched last month, last year, five years ago, then you wonder why nothing changes.
Martial Move™ has a built-in progression model. You earn range through specific mobility drills. You then own that range through isometric work, building strength and control at end range. Then you load it, integrating the new range under real demand.
That progression is what makes the results permanent rather than temporary.
I BUILT MY SYSTEM AROUND THE CORE POSITIONS OF JIU-JITSU
This was the insight that shaped the entire system. Jiu-jitsu doesn't put you in random positions. It uses six core positions: Supine, Seated, Shin Box, Prone, Kneeling, and Standing.
Every technique, every transition, every scramble lives inside those six positions.
So I built the entire Martial Move™ system around them. Mobility drills, isometrics, and transitions specific to each position, so no position gets neglected, and every movement you practice has direct carry-over to what you'll actually need on the mat.
I always say, if you want to be a complete, strong, mobile, and resilient human, train like a grappler. Because that's exactly what we need to be on the mat...ready and capable in every position.
Martial Move™ was built for grapplers. But the six core positions cover the full spectrum of human movement, which means this system works for anyone who wants to move better, stay out of pain, and build resilience that lasts.
EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF
The best way to understand Martial Move™ is to feel it. I just released a free 20-minute follow-along BASE workout on YouTube, targeting the elbows, shoulders, and neck, three of the most beaten-up areas in BJJ.
A BASE session is a shorter primer from the Martial Move™ system, designed to prepare your joints before training without depleting your energy. It's the perfect introduction to how the system feels and what it asks of your body.
There are 4 other types of mobility sessions in the Martial Move™ system, but I'll introduce those in the weeks ahead.
